Placement | August 2019
My trainers have been working diligently to make me as successful as possible. Unfortunately, that is not by going down the service dog path. The trainers have made the difficult decision to give me a change of career. Fortunately for me, a family local to the Iowa location has chosen to adopt me. We will live our days together carefree, doing just what I was born to do - be their best friend. Thank you to all who helped me get to this point!
Tiana's Journey
Stage 1 Introduction
Hi there! My name is Tiana, or Tia for short. I am proud to have been selected to enter into the Retrieving Freedom training program. My parents are “Winnie," who is originally from Kerrybrook Labradors and is now fostered by the Epley family, and "Prince." During this stage of training I will be spending approximately 8 months with my new volunteer foster, Adina, who is part of the Iowa State University Program.
Throughout Stage 1, I will learn the basics obedience, public behavior, and a lot of socialization. I understand that it takes a very special dog to complete the program as there is a high standard to become a Service Dog. I am aware that I may be one of the dogs whose purpose is outside of service work so I will be updating my profile on a monthly basis for all that would like to follow my journey through the program.
September 2018 - 2 months old
What an exciting month! I entered my foster home with Adina at Iowa State University. She is participating in the Animal Science program on the university's campus, where I am able to attend classes with her each and every day. To begin, I am working on learning my name, crate training, potty training, and how to walk on a leash. Walking across campus is tiring! Luckily I'm able to take lots of naps during lectures.
October 2018 - 3 months old
I'm beginning to learn that when my vest is on, I have to pay attention to my handler Adina. When it comes off, I find time to play! It doesn't take long before I'm ready for another nap.
December 2018 - 5 months old
Merry Christmas!
January 2019 - 6 months old
Adina can't believe I'm already over half a year old. Time is flying by.!
February 2019 - 7 months old
I'm not so sure about this 'snow' stuff. Look how big I'm getting, though!
March 2019 - 8 months old
I'm still learning how to properly pose for photos. Life continues on Iowa State University's campus. We are nearing the end of the school year, which means the end of Adina and my time together is drawing near. I'll be sure to cherish every moment with her!
April 2019 - 9 months old
Photoshoot! The four of us who are training together on Iowa State's campus had to get these great photos taken before our time together is over.
May 2019 - 10 months old
Adina, I cannot thank you enough for the time and energy you've invested in me over the past 8 months. You've taught me so much. We've grown together. I hope to continue to make you proud throughout my training, and hope to see you again someday! On to Stage 2 of training!
