Missouri State Fair Speedway Donates $500 to Support Service Dogs for Veterans and Children

Sedalia, MO - The rich tradition of dirt track racing at the Missouri State Fair Speedway continues to thrive, culminating in a $500 donation to Retrieving Freedom, Inc. This contribution was raised through sponsorships, grandstand ticket sales, and Pit Area ticket sales, demonstrating the community’s enduring support for the race and local charities.

Reviving a Missouri Racing Icon

For over 60 years, the Missouri State Fair Championship Race was the pinnacle of dirt track racing in the state. After waning interest in the 1990s and 2000s, the championship was revived in 2017 thanks to the dedication of racing enthusiasts and the unwavering support of sponsors and fans. This year, approximately 3,000 fans packed the stands, with 65 cars competing across three racing classes, underscoring the event’s resurgence and growing appeal.

"We’re committed to bringing back the glory of Missouri’s dirt track racing while also giving back to our community," said Larry McCown, one of the organizers of the race.

"The success of this event is only possible because of our sponsors and race fans, and we’re proud to use that success to support meaningful causes like Retrieving Freedom."

Supporting Local Charities

Retrieving Freedom, a non-profit organization dedicated to training Service Dogs for Veterans and children with autism, was the beneficiary of this year's proceeds. Larry McCown and his partner Randy Combs expressed their admiration for Retrieving Freedom's mission and pledged continued support.

"We love the vision of Retrieving Freedom, and it’s our hope that we can continue to make future donations to help them meet their goals," McCown added.

Looking Ahead

Looking forward, the Missouri State Fair Speedway plans to expand the annual Championship Race, with an additional event slated for next year.

"We’re excited to continue promoting dirt track racing and keep this tradition alive for future generations," said McCown.
